You know, I haven't had such impressions so far after watching film adaptations of Stephen King's works (and I've seen about two or even three dozen of them already).

I don't know why Carrie made such an impression on me.

On the one hand, in the film, you can literally feel the places that the screenwriter and director's scalpel have walked through, separating and screening out fragments of the novel that, in their opinion, the film could do without. This is the story of Carrie's family, and a more detailed story about herself, her childhood, her feelings and fears, and how she discovered her telekinesis abilities. This is also a more detailed story about other characters, say Sue, who is ambiguous, with a tendency to show a positive attitude towards Carrie only superficially; in fact, only the final scene conveys it. Finally, this is a picture of the general destruction brought to a small American town by a girl with unusual abilities. The film is limited to a burnt down dance hall and a car with Chris and Billy, although this scene was actually shot very effectively.

But despite all this, the remaining basic material, revealing the essence, is packed and formed into a coherent, logical and consistent story, and all cause-and-effect relationships are clearly identified. All the main accents are “captured” and placed, as a result, the film makes a very holistic impression, despite the merciless work of the aforementioned scalpel. This, of course, was made possible thanks to the organized and coordinated work of the entire creative team — screenwriter, director, composer, artist, cameraman, and the latter's work should also be noted. And, of course, actors, for many of whom this movie became one of the springboards in their later careers.

Sissy Spacek is absolutely great as Carrie White. The actress masterfully conveys the fear and intimidation in which her character has been living since the first years of her life. She has no one to turn to, she has no one to complain to; she never meets kindness, sympathy, or understanding along the way — only ridicule, bullying and cruelty, from her own mother, crazy about her personal life drama, to a five-year-old boy on a bicycle who seems to enjoy teasing Carrie. What can we say about her peers then! It's no wonder that the first sign of attention, the first glimmer of hope that her classmate Tommy will be the first person to treat her like a human being (sorry for the tautology), scares Carrie so much at first. And then it is impossible to watch her joy, her emotional uplift, especially at the moment when she is proclaimed the queen of the school ball, without pain, knowing what will happen in just a minute. Betrayed so cruelly, Carrie simply can't regain faith that the world will ever treat her differently, and she begins to take revenge on those around her for years of humiliation, bullying and betrayal. Sissy Spacek conveys all this range of feelings and experiences on the screen just amazing!

Piper Lori is also good as Margaret White. A person who has gone through his difficult life drama seems to be on the right path, in which one can find solace — the path of faith. But what Carrie's mother heralds as a result is not faith, not love for God and neighbor, but pride, the very one that threw a fallen angel out of Heaven, and now slyly cloths itself in the sheep's clothing of pseudo-Christianity under the guise of numerous sects that are Christian only in appearance, and even then not everywhere. Such “preachers of faith” are present in more than one work by S. King. I saw the last of these in the movie “The Mist” /I don't think this character is the director's fantasy, although I haven't read “The Mist” itself, which is based on this film, yet/. Returning to Piper Lori, I would like to say that she conveys her character's character with amazing and even frightening accuracy. Great acting job!

In my opinion, both Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie deserved the Oscars for their roles, but lost respectively to actresses Faye Dunaway and Beatrice Straight, who won their statuettes for their roles in the TV network. I haven't seen this film and, therefore, the works of these actresses, so I'll refrain from drawing any conclusions here, but I think it should be very outstanding works in an outstanding film, since they lost such highly professional works by Spacek and Lori.

We also liked other acting works in the film. Nancy Allen /Chris/ and Amy Irving /Sue/, among others, are very good. It's hard to believe that these were their first notable film roles. William Catt /Tommy/ is not bad, and, of course, John Travolta/Billy/.

But what you definitely shouldn't do with this film was shoot its sequel “The Rage of Carrie 2", released in 1999, which also offered to star Sissy Spacek, I just don't know who, most likely like her (Carry/) relative with whom the same story takes place. Sissi refused to participate in this project, and as a result, it turned out to be unsuccessful, which, in my opinion, is absolutely natural, because repeating the same story, changing only the name of the main character, was initially hopeless. Something similar happened with the sequel to Pet Graveyard, which was clearly not worth shooting either.

Summing up, I will say that I enjoyed the film “Carrie “. A strong, solid, professional film adaptation that has preserved the letter and spirit of S. King.

A remake of the film “Carrie” is being prepared

The passion for riveting remakes takes some completely unhealthy forms.

For example, Carrie. Producer guys — why reshoot this movie? What will you add to it that the famous original does not have Brian De Palma? Moreover, in 2002, there was already one remake, though shot for television, but not bad. Does it really have Stephen King Are there any other novels for film adaptation? Take it off “Rage”, screen “A long walk”. If you want scale, take it “Mobile phone”. Why touch Carrie? I don't understand...

Moreover, the news about the casting is a little... surprising. The role of Carrie White is predicted Chloe Moretz. It's just some kind of fantasy: should thin and pretty Khloe play fat Carrie, with her horse face and bad skin? It is clear that makeup artists can do wonders, but such a casting completely lacks logic.

The role of a fanatical mother has been proposed Julianne Moore, this is closer to the topic. Approves.

The project is directed by a woman — Kimberly Pearce, famous for her film “Boys don't cry”.

Overall, I don't know what to expect from this remake yet. The trailer will show. Unless you can look at a nice fan poster right now. It's a beautiful job.
